I've been unemployed for 4 months and have resorted to omitting my two degrees from my CV to avoid being overqualified for $13 occasional temp-work. Worthwhile petition!
Support the Living Wage campaign too!

I fully support this petition, young workers especially are being exploited by precarious work and it is fundamentally NOT OKAY!

I'm ashamed that my Government has let me down once again in not protecting its workers for Ontario. I work for a temp to permanant agency and I'm now on my 4th year of service with no intentions of hiring full time. I was making $18 an hour when i first started but make only $17 an hour due to my agency reducing its hourly rate to said competition which never did take place. When i asked the Government about such actions they said they cannot do anything about it. Ontario should start thinking about the impact this imposes on workers in Ontario becuase its us workers who votes them in and now is the time to tell them we want equity in pay not disapointment from our Government colleges. Temporary equal pay is a must if you want my vote, otherwise they are just thinking about how they'll make when elected and no intentions for the common worker.

I wasn't under the impression that we lived in a serfdom. Temp workers deserve equal pay, not only for themselves, but for the good of the workplace and the bottom line. Wake up!

I support this 100%. We need to get labour friendly politicians onside with this. We need someone to take the political leaders to task on these issues.

I was temping before emigrating to Canada last year and again I am temping in Calgary. I wholeheartedly agree with the comments made. I am in a more responsible and higher level job than my colleagues and sometimes am required to work long hours, yet I learn less that my permanent work-mates. I am biding my time to get some Canadian 'work experience' under my belt before I start looking for a permanent position. I am a little disillusioned by the agencies here - they take more commission than those in the UK and workers rights are better protected in the UK too. Plus I found it very difficult to get employed because I lacked the so-called 'Canadian work experience'. Never heard the like before! Rather an insult because my skills and qualifications and experience exceed many who work here in full-time jobs. A Canadian would never get that sort of 'discrimination' in England.

I WORKED WITH 5 WOMEN IN A DEPT. DOING THE SAME JOB, EQUAL WORK, BUT A DIFFERENT TITLE THAN ME MAKING MORE THAN $4.00 AN HOUR MORE THAN ME FOR ALMOST A YEAR. FILED A COMPLAINT WITH EEOC AND THEY TOLD ME BECAUSE A MALE WAS NOT IN THE POSITION, I HAD NO CASE. WHAT ABOUT EQUAL PAY AMOUNG WOMEN FOR EQUAL WORK DUTIES?

Equal pay for equal work should be enforced by Alberta Labour Standards. I work for a company that pays more per hour to the temporary workers that come and help out for a few weeks during busy time, than they do to the loyal employees who work for them day in and day out! It's frustrating and degrading!

I will sign this petition but it's more than just wages. It's clauses that make it harder to work for any temporary agencies clients for a period of up to two years. This is only one of the things I have against temporary employment. In one position I was paid a whopping 5-6 dollars an hour less than my permanent counterparts. On top of that the temporary workers were spoken to in a very abusive manner. Since you are temporary and easily replaceable, most people just endure. You are often left out of the loop when it comes to training opportunities. I can go on.

get rid of temp agency's!!! that would be a great start. I support this web site. Everybody has the right to make a decent wage, with full time work, or part time with good wages. I think unions have to become stronger in this country. We are losing the battle.

I pay same union dues as my full-time union co-workers but have next to no representation through the collective agreement. Found next to no representation in government labour laws either. Let's change that.

I am considered a part time worker in Calgary at 30+ hours a week. However as a result I am paid well under those above me and at an hourly wage rather than salary. I support others in the quest for equal pay for equal work as it is entrenched in the international declaration of human rights Article 23 Section 2. The Canadian government owes it to it's citizens to respect and enforce this.

With fewer hours and a lower hourly wage it is even more difficult to get by.My bills and cost of living are not based on a seperate or special rate based on my casual/part time status.Equal pay for equal work will not solve all problems in the work place, but it will help

If anything, those who work part-time, temporary, seasonal, "temp agency" and other precarious jobs should be paid at HIGHER rates than the full-timers. With risk should come reward, no? Try and sell that to a banker, or a politician for that matter! End of commentary.

Why should temp agancies first get a portion of the hourly wage they send a person out on a job to earn before the person working for it sees any of it. Equal pay for equal work.
